Vitamins, Minerals and more...
N.B. descriptions of the individual supplements can be found at the bottom of this
page so keep reading.
Everyone should be aware at the importance of vitamins, minerals, probiotics and amino acids to the body. Only since fighting the war with Candidiasis, and then against HRT, have I become so aware of what part these trace elements make.. The body can produce some of them itself but others have to come from food, and today, our diet of convenience and fast foods has meant a lot of the essential nutrients are no longer supplied. This is a big error to make and some of today’s health problems can be corrected simply by diet and supplements. Instead, we run to the doctor and get more toxins to destroy even more essential bits of the body. What are we doing to ourselves? No point in telling you what spell to do in the magickal world if the physical world is being neglected? It all goes together so apologies to those who want none of this health stuff but it plays much more of a part in my life now then it did. It also came to my attention, as I learnt more, that a lot of what is out there is garbage and I began looking for quality supplements for myself and my family. After all, the Candida diet would have been pretty useless without all the garlic, vitamins and Acidophilus to aid the body against the fight and it is the same for all health issues (some migraine sufferers can simply be deficient of Niacin and their problems sorted simply by taking the correct supplement, to name but one issue). I take lots of supplements daily and finding good quality was a major problem. Also, following constant complaints as to why you have to go to several shops to get the supplements for the Candidiasis diet, I have now started stocking supplements within the shop. As with all my stock, I use the best possible for me and mine so that is what I will stock – the supplements I use for myself and my family. Nothing less than the best will do for me so don’t expect cheap. You want cheap, go to a Supermarket, but if you want them to actually do some good in quantities that work, then the Green Witch can now offer that service.
NB; read your labels and you will be surprised what you will find. I received my new stock of vitamins and thought I would compare labels with some I already had. Guess what! On the kids vitamins and the Vitamin C, both had that dreaded word in my house – Aspartame!!! In vitamins!!! Even things you think are safe maybe aren’t. Needless to say, they are now disposed of and replaced by my new chosen range, none of which have aspartame in. See what I mean – only the best for you lot!
The Importance of Vitamins & Minerals
So, what do they do for the body? Well, vitamins are an essential component to the body, keeping it tuned and functioning correctly, like a finely tuned car engine. Take away the spark plugs of a car engine, or simply get them damp, and the car just will not start, no matter how much fuel you put into it. Get my drift?
Now, a way to ensure that the body gets what it needs to live a healthy life is to take supplements. This doesn’t mean you can then live on convenience and unhealthy foods, it just means that you are making up for necessary losses in today’s foods. The best way is still to eat healthily, balanced and as best as you can afford. Another thing to remember is that vitamins must be taken with meals, so that the body naturally assimilates them, along with the goodness from the food just eaten. Another point to remember is that vitamins alone aren’t enough – vitamins need minerals to be functional to the body.
Now there are two types of vitamin supplements, natural and synthetic. It is obviously cheaper to use synthetic supplements – they are chemically the same, but then do you prefer cubic zirconium or diamonds? I know which I would prefer to have and it is the same with my vitamins.
Cheaper supplements also have another difference – the minerals are not chelated. This means acceptable and digestible to the body rather then the body having to deal with the process of chelation itself. If your body is not 100%, it may not perform this task efficiently and therefore the supplement goes to waste. You may be saving money but then it is like buying something in a sale because it is cheap but that you will never use, therefore it is just a waste of money. Still with me?
Now, when you take supplements, space them out through the day, but, if you are like me and tend to forget, take them all after your largest meal of the day. The best result for Vitamin B & C, as they are excreted from the body fairly quickly, is to take them three times a day if possible. If not, then after breakfast and after dinner.
