Welcome to the first if not later than usual newsletter of 2012, which we arrive in Snow free!! As the sales of snow shovels rocketed so we could survive the chaos of a worse winter than last year, at least some-one was making money...the shovels will last so one-hit wonder guys- everyone has them now!!

As we arrive at Imbolc, meaning Ewe’s milk, the Earth begins to slowly spring back to life by the appearance of the first snowdrops and the ewe’s milk as they get ready for lambing, which brings new life. This is an optimistic time as we are coming out of the depths of winter…at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. The winter may be far from over and the March winds are yet to blow but the nights are pulling out and we can start to look forward to the year. What do you want to achieve this year? Time to put plans on paper and make up your mind as to what the year will hold for you. Remember, if you don’t have any ideas or ambitions for the year, you won’t achieve them!! I have already gone to Norway and learnt to ski and haven’t even written my plans down yet – wasn’t on my Bucket list either so ahead already this year!! It is also a Leap Year…anyone planning on popping the question girls? It is our turn and is a Scottish tradition – the only day in 4 years that a woman can ask a man to marry them…is it on your list of things to do this 2012?? Maybe the romantic tone of this newsletter may spur you on to ask him or her…who knows!! Life if for living and if you don’t ask, you don’t get!!

Pink – the colour of love

Pink is a mix of the purity of white with the passion of red, and is regarded as a feminine colour but actually balances the male and female sides of your personality whatever the sex. Rose quartz – the stone of Love…

Only recently have I been attracted to Rose quartz and also seems to be a much needed crystal at the moment as I watch a lot of customers reach for the pink stones too. Rose is the stone of love and emotional healing and it is said to dream of this stone is to tell you that your true love is coming or even just arrived! It heals the emotional wounds left from past hurts and broken hearts. Sleep with a natural piece next to the bed to heal your heart whilst you rest, and carry a heart in your pocket or wear a rose heart necklace to attract love and lovely people into your life. Put your rose heart next to a pink candle inscribed with a heart and burn daily to add extra spell-power to your search. Opening your heart…the time has come

The heart is a mechanical pump of muscle that expands and contracts to pump oxygenated blood round our body. When it stops, so does our life. Equally, the heart is associated with our emotional body as the centre of our emotions and of love. We expand and open our arms and heart to embrace those we love and we contract and push them away when we are hurt. Our emotions expand and contract just like our physical heart. Learning to love and be loved is a lesson for life and 2012 is more about learning to think from the heart than from the material position we have come to value as most important. “Money may make the world go round” but, as the Beatles say, “All you need is love”. It can be a very lonely place in that big house if you have no-one to share it and be happy with. We humans need companionship and someone to share life with, whether perfect partner, soul-mate or a few close friends. Without them, there is no point. Try to follow your heart and your intuition more. Sometimes it can be hard, sometimes it will get broken and opening it can leave you feeling vulnerable. Sometimes we love someone and have to set them free to be who they want to be or do what they want to do whether partner or children. It can hurt, but the more love you give, the more will come back to you so just keep that heart beating strong and “let your love flow like a Mountain spring” and see “the power of Love!!”

Superstitions re 29 Feb (Leap year)

So girls; who fancies popping the question to him this Leap Year?? Leap year only comes about once every four years to realign the yearly calendar with the Sun. It was thus named because English law didn’t recognise this extra day in law so all rules were “leapt” passed and consequently, traditions became null and void just for the one day. In Ireland in the 5th century, St Bridget petitioned St Patrick to allow women to have more choice in who they married(and Imbolc is Brigit’s Day) so he gave them 29th Feb to break with tradition and propose to the man they would have liked to be with. In Scotland, it was even against the law to refuse such a proposal and any man would be greatly fined should they’d done so!! So, go on, go on, go on…if your single and in love with the man of your dreams, because love is in the air…as they say!!

Ease-it ointment…for those aches and pains

As I am going back and looking at old remedies, herbs, blends etc, I wanted to make an old fashioned ointment as an alternative to my arthritic cream and my “Knees & Things”, especially as people enquire to whether I stock Tiger Balm. So, here is my an old fashioned balm made with beeswax and sunflower or olive oil and old fashioned oils like Wintergreen, Black Pepper and Camphor. I had a shoulder problem that comes and goes so when it came back, instead of using Knees and things, which my partner hates the smell of and it is him who is responsible for application, we tried the “Ease-it” instead. By simply applying once at night, what a difference! It was worst at night because it was the shoulder I slept on and when I turned over, I would wake up! Not anymore!!  My latest holiday as you know was to go to learn to ski. I knew this would hurt my legs like hell so applied this before and after skiing and…no pain. Alan injured his calf and we thought that was skiing done, but after applying several times and resting for a day, it was back to the slopes for him too…and it smells wonderfully warming and comforting; and when mum tried it on her bad shoulder, she said it took her right back to some ointment she remembered her dad using when she was a child…must have got something right as customers who have tried it are telling me it is fab…can’t have those painful bits putting pay to your romantic night now, can we??
